NYLT

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)

NYLT is an exciting, action-packed program designed to provide youth with leadership skills and experience that they can apply within their troops and in other situations requiring leadership of self and others. Participants must be  13 years of age. Those who complete the course successfully will have learned a great deal about what it means to lead others, both in Scouting and in their everyday lives. The skills learned at NYLT are valuable for anyone, regardless of whether or not they choose to pursue a career in leadership.

What to expect at NYLT

  • You will gain first-hand experience in a leadership role, working with other youth.
  • You will get constructive feedback and tips for improvement.
  • An interactive and unified leadership training approach, including fun activities, presentations, and games.
I like NYLT because it has given me a chance to grow as a leader and teach people how to be comfortable as leaders as well.
— Female SPL
NYLT has given me the confidence and the know-how of what it takes to speak in front of a group of people.
— 4th year staff member
I like NYLT because it taught me how to present and communicate effectively and I made lots of good friends.
— Female SPL
NYLT has given me the ability to speak and present in front of people and communicate myself clearly to those around me.
— 1st year Staffer
I have never had such a good time at a camp as I did at NYLT. It is my absolute favorite longer camp. I have been given the opportunity to learn new skills such as public speaking, better communication and leadership, but I also met a lot of really amazing people. NYLT is the most fun learning experience I've ever seen.
— Last year’s participant.
I like NYLT because it’s super fun and the many friends that I’ve made from both being a participant and staffing.
— 4th year staffer
I have watched a quite kid come in has a participant by the end of the week. That quite kid is smiling and having a great time and then at the end of the week, they are turning in a staff application. It is amazing how much these Scouts transform into young leaders.
